Vintage/History Value of Art Form: Enamel painting was introduced in India during the late 16th century during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar (1556-1605). Akbar’s artisans learnt it from the Portuguese (European) craftsmen in Goa. Enamel work is said to have originated in Cyprus (West Asia) in 13th century BCE.
